53 Oil Bath- Am I under fire?

I don't think a '58 Commander unit would fit under the hood of a '53 Coupe.[:0]
This is where our parts catalogs would come in handy.

Thanks Mr.Johnson, I don't got a parts catolog for those years, so it was a guess. I don't use them (caso lark owner,LOL) personally, as I have a lark.

Thanks, for the response guys. I have a dry type.
The part # is 533058 for the wet (oil bath). This
fits 53-54, but I don't have the parts # for newer,
and don't know what years are the same. The C/K is
different in 53-54. Can anybody help with what years
will fit? Thanks

I'm just mildly curious why you would want an oil bather cleaner. The dry type is much neater. I replaced my '53 oil bath cleaner many years ago with the dry type.

The reason I want a oil bath is: When I bought my 53 coupe,
it had a oil bath with it. I wanted a dry type, just for the
reasons you stated. So, I found one, anf gave away the oil bath.
I later learned, the reason for the oil bath, was for hood
clearence with the carb setup.

What Flashback said. I have at least one extra for a 53 champion (6 cyl) if it could be made to work for you. I dont know what the difference is but maybe someone here will offer up that info. Steve

Understood. But, I haven't had any clearance problem with the dry type. I still have the old oil bath unit, but I kind of hate to get rid of it as it is listed on the production order.

My clearance problem is due to the fact my car has a
offenhauser kit that uses a stromberg 4 barrel, and
when I got the car the hood was not on. I got rid of
a oil bath cleaner, because I didn't know it had the
extra hood clearance it needed. Now afer fireing up,
after two years, I find out I have to use the oil bath
for it to be "correct". I could modify a dry type, but,
I am trying to put it back as it was when the kit was
installed. please see my post "back to 53- who knows"

I don't know anything about a Stromberg four-barrel, but I doubt if an original '53 Commander oil-bath air cleaner would fit it. The four-barrel throat should be considerably larger than a two-barrel. Does the throat open to the rear like the two-barrels? I think I have a four-barrel oil bath air cleaner, but it would only work with an upright throat.

53K, the Stromberg was part of an offenhauser kit for 53 up
to ? Commanders. On the C/K bodies it included a air horn
adapter to adapt the air cleaner.
