  • Studebakin' up to Mt. Rainier

Today I drove my '64 Daytona HT (259-4 spd) to Chinook pass, about 60 miles west of Yakima, wa. I took a nice (vertical)hike, caught a glimpse of Mt. Rainier, when it wasn't hiding in the clouds:

I was hoping to get a shot of the '64 with the mountain in the background, but the pass was socked in with fog when I returned. The cruise back was GREAT, however! Very little traffic, a warm day, dual exhausts, 70 mph (oops-55); I think the drive was the best part of trip!

Beautiful pics, thanks for sharing. Looks almost as beautiful as around here (I'm not prejudiced, no, not me...).[)]

That shot of Rainier is nothing short of spectacular![8D]

My sister lives in Yakima. After the '05 Spokane meet I spent a few days at her place. One day we went to Mt Rainier and hiked up a ways until her and my BIL's legs tired out. The weather was great, the scenery was awesome [8D] I took a few rolls of pix with my 35mm SLR that turned out great.

Someday I need to get out there again for a visit. I did manage to get a couple shots of the Mt w/o clouds obscuring it. We could see some steam or smoke from Mt St Helens while up on the side of the Mt too.

            Thanks for posting these.

                  Beautiful, Bruce! []

I've had the fortune of living in several states. Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Ohio, Kentucky, California and Washington. I've visited almost every state. I've thoroughly enjoyed every one of them (we've got quite a variety here in the US of A [^])...But there is nothing I have found (yet) that compares to the beauty of the Northwest. Besides the high Cascades, we have probably the best boating in the world in Puget Sound and the San Jaun Islands, the fruit orchards on the eastern slope of the mountains, rolling wheat lands in the eastern part of the state, the Columbia River gorge, etc.

We are being "discovered" (fortunately or unfortunately depending on your point of view), but I think population growth will really kick in to high gear with the 2010 Winter Olympics in the Vancouver, B.C. area, and all the publicity this area will get from that.
