Does your car have a Chevy 283 or a Studebaker V8?

If you convert to a GM alternator you can pick up one for $35 give or take. A truly original Prestolite will cost you a lot more. There was one on ebay for $100 or so recently.

New and used? Lots. Check your TURNING WHEELS magazine, or go to the "Home" page at the top of this Forum page and select Valuable Links to find Studebaker vendors.

OATIME, not to get fussy or critical here, but in 1963, a 283 wouldn't be a "stock engine". A Stock V8 in 1963 would be either a 259 or a 289 and would be an engine of Studebaker design that Studebaker produced in it's own facilities.
Maybe you made an innocent typo by using 283, but GM-designed and produced 283s WERE USED in the 65 and 66 models after Studebaker had closed down their foundry and engine production lines.

                1957 President two door

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

Good point, Mr. Biggs. Nevertheless, the same alternator will work on both.

Joe, go down to NAPA and get one. Or for that matter any FLAPS will carry one. Now, if you must have that exact, correct Prestolite, then you'll have to get it from Studebaker International, Studebakers West or some other Studebaker specific distributor.
