I wonder if studebaker decided that pink studebakers weren't a hot seller, because they took my car ,and I can see pink ,they sprayed the body in Rancho yellow, and Black. The firewall shows part pink and part rancho yellow ,also the floors are pink. Just wondering ,who would know. The Buyer must have ordered the rancho yellow ,that's what I'm thinking. The inside of the trunk is rancho yellow. So I'm inclined to think the car is not a repaint. And the build sheet says Rancho ,Black.

Curiouser and curiouser! The Rancho referred to on the build sheet should be the late '55 color, Rancho RED.

Interesting Mike, years ago I came accross a 55 Commander HT that was yellow on the outside, yet the interior floor was pink,or flamingo? and I can'nt remember for sure but I think the trunk area was also yellow. so maybe there is something to that.

I do not think I have ever seen a factory pink Studebaker before.

I have seen a few Packard that incorporated pink into the color scheme.

When did Studebaker go pink, and does anyone own one that color?

You mean like this one? (no, it's NOT mine!) Maybe you haven't seen a factory pink one because they called it coral <G>

Studebaker came out with Coraltone in 1955, and in 1956, there was a Spring Color called Rosebud. There was no pink shade in 1957, but in 1958, Jewel Beige looked pink as did Tahiti Coral in 1959. Again, in 1961, there was Flamingo, at first only available on Hawks and Lark convertibles. For the last time there was Rose Mist in 1963, the only instance there was a metallic shade of pink.

I see,

I was expecting pink like on a Nash.

Do you think that two tone color treatment with the pinkish pastel color is of Packard influence, or something else that Studebaker was already doing?

I am aware of the Coral and Salmon colors, but did not consider those the same as a real pink.

Was it a primer?
