  • 16 Studebakers at the California State Fair

We had 16 Studebakers at the California State Fair for the last day celebration.

We had 3 55s - a President, Speedster and Commander
    2 53s - a stock Commander and Pat Dilling's STUCOOL Rod
    2 trucks - a 61 Champ and a 49 2R5
    2 63 Avantis
    2 64s - a GT Hawk and a Daytona Cruiser
    a 62 Lark
    a 52 Champion HT Restomod
a 48 Starlight Rat Rod that has been Bullet nosed
    a 58 Packard Hawk
and the star of the show was a 1916 center door hartop from Whittier California that is said to be the only one registered in the USA. It is a cover car for the current issue of the Antique Studebaker Club magazine.

We all had a great time. Maybe we could convince Pat Dilling to post some pictures since I am inept at it.

Here's a few. First I must apologize to Bob Peterson, I've realized I did not get his Avanti into any of my pictures except for one head light in the first one below, right behind the 1916 Center door. Sorry Bob, I thought I got them all! They did have us kinda penned in so some of the cars were caught in the middle so to speak. It was a fun day and we shared our Studebakers and Stude stories with lotas folks.

So what's the scoop on the 52 Champion hardtop? Nice looking car. Of course, they're all nice, but I am a bit biased in favor of the 52.

                  1952 Commander 2 door. Really fine 259.

We had a great group of cars & people!
Weather was nice. We met people interest in Studebakers & joining our club! We are letting people know there are other cars out there not just Chevys & Fords!

The 52 Hardtop belongs to Karel Staple Member Gary Grant (not Hart, oops I knew I was off on that.) It has the original Champion drivetrain. He has redone the paint, brightwork and interior and lowered it, then added the American Racing wheels. Honestly before I saw this car I did not pay a lot of attention to 52s. They are kind of lost in betweeen the bullet nose cars and the Loewy coupes. But this one, in the way Gary finished it, changed that for me and it has become one of my favorites. Here are a couple more pictures of it from the PSW Zone Meet

The 52 belongs to Gary Grant not Hart. Pat got his name mixed up with that Colorado politician. I agree with Pat - I was not a big 52 fan either until I saw his car. He won a participants award with it at our Zone Meet in Sacramento last May. It was just too purdy to not go home with a plaque.

Sorry Studerich, I got the 64 wrong. I stand corrected. I thought it was a Cruiser because it had the vent windows in the back doors. By the way, we were talking about you at the event. One of our members, a retired Studebaker mechanic that frequents the forum, was saying that your comments were ALWAYS spot on. I like being corrected by the master...

Thanks for posting the pictures Pat. I knew I could count on you. It probably took you only a few minutes to do it. It would have taken me a couple of hours. I really need to learn how to do that.
