  • Sunday 8/30 (Studillac) EYE CANDY

Yesterday the Studebaker National Museum had a car show called "Hot August Nights."
The story I heard second hand was this car was a 50's custom that was stored away for many years.

    Anyone recognize the art work?

The Bill Frick Studillacs seems to be associated with the '53 models and this is a '55. Were they done this late?

Bill Frick Studillacs were almost all 1953-54s.
A few 1955s were built and at least one on a
1955 Speedster. This could be the one.
That cut out for the stick shift was at least
      the way Bill built them.

Looks like it had a side mounted supercharger at one time, and he came up with an interesting solution to gearshift clearance.

I'm not familiar enough with the supercharger mounting bolt pattern, but is that it?

I thought it might be an OE Cadillac bracket for an AC compressor.

In any case, the belt system is "Rube Goldberg". That big belt is a mystery.

Pretty clean installation, but that electric fan has to go.

Plenty of voltage reduction coils on the firewall to run the 6V accessories.

          Aftermarket hot rod distributor.

Marine flame arrestor for an air cleaner.

          I like it! [8D]

Anybody know what that big metal "egg" is that's mounted to the inner fender and just above the power steering sector? It's sports what looks like some ventilator screen at it's aft section as well as a little cover box off the front. Izzat some sorta siren er sumpin'?

Battery must be in the trunk - probably 12V to support that rad fan and maybe other stuff. There's obviously some dropping resistors on the firewall. While I don't care for the red, white and black combo, it's still pretty neat.

Dick, looks like that big belt serves only to drive the little pulley on the left side of the engine, which in turn, drives the PS pump and generator. I'd bet that it did that AS WELL AS drive whatever was attached to that empty mount originally tho.

Spent some time talking to the owner, the supercharger is in the trunk, needs rebuilt. The big belt runs the vs57 along with a pulley that runs another pulley for the gen and power steering pump.

Is the bucket of fried chicken for the car or the cars owner?

With the Studillac my Uncle just bought, are STACKS of letters from various Stude folks.

There are several from a guy (I forget his name) that had a '55 Speedster Studillac that was a Bill Frick built car. He specifically mentioned the cutout in the seat for the shifter and under-dash gauges.

Hot dang.. The car still exists.

It's great to see an original Studillac being found that still runs and drives. It looks pretty solid, just needs a little TLC and get that supercharger GOING!!!
