  • Now I've got 3 Marshals - minus one....

I purchased two more Marshals today. That's twice as many Studes as my wife and I could find at a nice 300+ car show in the same town! I saw these advertised and couldn't resist checking them out.[]

They are nearly identical '61 Patrol Marshals (I'll have to get production orders to know for sure) with solid frames, floors and a little over 50k showing on each. They are both central South Dakota cars with only 5 numbers difference in the body tags and 43 apart in serial numbers. One still has it's original 259 while the other has a "cloverleaf" replacement block. They have twin traction, automatics, zippered headliners, Leese Neville alternators, holes for lights, holes for wip antennas and the word "POLICE" across the trunk.[:0]

I'll bring them home in the next couple of days and give a better description with pics, but I figured I'd never hear the end of it if I didn't give a couple "teaser" shots.

Very cool, they look to be in pretty good shape. What PD had them? Russ Farris

Thanks Russ, I'll have to do some "detective" work with the license plates and production orders to find out which PD they may be from.

Yes, they are for sale. I've got an interested party right now, but I want to get them home and inspect them closer before I do anything. In fact I'm taking off right now to go get them, I'll post more later. Hope the old truck can pull two ok![^]

They are fantastic. What a find! I do not remember ever seeing 1961 Lark police cars and now you own two.

My wife and I stopped at a truck stop on the way home with the Larks and a customer walked up to me and said "There's something you don't see every day!" They turned a lot of heads all the way home.[8D]

It was dark when we got home, but a quick inspection with a flashlight shows a couple small holes starting in the drivers pan on one car and some rust starting around the back trunk mounts on the other. The frames and inner rockers are super clean and other than the infamous backs of the front fenders, the outer bodies are clean too. By far the most solid Studebakers I've ever had![]

I'll need to clean them out good on the inside to know for sure, but from what I can see, I'm very happy.

Question; Were all the "cloverleaf" replacement engines 289's? I know I've read about them here, but was just wondering if someone knew for sure off hand.[?]

How cool is that?! That's a great picture hauling them back, Scott. You're like the Blues Brothers of Marshals, bringing them back to life with respect. [^][8D] I guess that makes your wife a Blues Sister.

I think some were 259. I looked at a T-cab with a cloverleaf block the seller said was a 259. He said he had checked the pistons. I would assume this could be done through the plug holes. Steve
