  • Steinkamp's 62 Lark??

This one sure looks like the same car, but with different seat covers:

I'm betting it is! Could there be two of these that nice? Not likely but possible...

    Think this is it, Dick??

    Here's a thread with Dick's car mentioned:

Really nice car. If a person wanted a four door that would be a good one. I wonder what the story is behind the sale.

You are right, Bob...that is my Lark. Same license number.

The upholstery didn't have ANY wear on it when I owned it and I doubt if it would need to be redone. It has been driven 2000 miles since I sold it. It might just be that the light is different in the recent pictures.

I bought it from a club member when I lived in the San Francisco area. He had bought it a few months prior from the estate of the original owner. It was bought new in San Leandro, CA. I owned it for several years, but felt guilty every time I drove it. I sold it to a Lady in the LA area, and she sold it maybe a year ago to a collector there. (323 is an LA area code).

It is as good or better than it looks in the pictures.

You certainly couldn't DO one that nice for $12.5, but with that many doors.....[:I]

Doors, doors, doors, it is always doors, as we get older the 4 doors are the ones you can get in and out of at least in the back seat, you people that think that they should only have made 2 door cars your day will come...Bob

That is certainly Dick's former car all right, but they stretched the SECOND OWNER thing just a bit, more like forth owner. But no matter, it is what it is, a very nice low mileage car.

It is too bad that they added that flowery material in the center of the seat cushions and across the top, because if they had used the blue vinyl that is on the ends, all around the inserts it would have looked correct.

That is the first Craigs List Ad I have EVER seen with good Pic's, I did not know you could do that, if that is possible who needs to listen to the vacuum cleaner at ebay and PayPal run every time you list something? [}]

All that ad needs is a bit of info, but if you know what you are looking at, you can tell it's a Regal 4 Dr. with a V-8 and Automatic, Radio & Climitizer.

I'm with you Bob... I have reached the age where the practicality of 4 doors outweighs the looks of a 2 door anyday. When I purchase another Studebaker car sometime down the road, it will be a 4 door. [^]

At any rate a very nice car! [8D]

Why I questioned the seat covers is, in your pictures the center inserts looked the same, but the surrounding vinyl was plain; but in the CL pictures you can see the correct (I beg to differ, Rich!) patterned vinyl. Maybe the pattern just doesn't show in your pictures I saw. Did it have that pattern when you had it?

I have seen that pattern on a few different 62s that were survivors, or high-point show cars. This is from Steve Gottfried's breathtaking 62 Skytop:

So these are correct covers, correct?

Does Steve Gottfried live in Calif.? Same upholstery shop? Or same mail-order material supplier? Phantom replacement?

I am not saying it is impossible that I have never seen a Regal like this and they do exist, but that is not how our '62 Regal Wagon demo was, it is possible that Wagons were different, and 4 Dr. '62 Regals were next to non-existent on the West Coast and most places. Also not shown in the brochures. [?] [?] [?] [?]

Your statement makes me think of my father. He always said that four door cars are old men's cars. He purchased his first new four door when he was 86 years old and it was the "required" Buick.

I am older than you and I still drive a two door as my everyday car.

Here's another picture of the interior that I took when I owned it...

                              I don't think it's been changed.

Looks like it has head rests now, however.
