Many of you are too young to know how fantastic the 53 coupe and hardtop models looked in their day. My mother bought me one of the hardtops in 1957 (because she wasn't dumb enough not to guess how I was driving her 56 Buick when I managed to wheedle her into letting me take it). That was 1957. I was 16. Someone she knew wanted to unload the car. Very cheaply unload the car - it was a Studebaker after all. They didn't have much resale value at the time. I drove it into the ground (top speed 90mph downhill, always getting scuff marks on the whitewalls because I never slowed down for curves) and kept it for five years before forcing it on a dealer as a trade-in for a new TR-4.
Will never forget double-dating in it with a crude friend of mine.He and his date in the back seat. He points to the divider and says, "I bet that makes you feel safe, don't it?" She nodds yes, so he then rips it off the driveshaft tunnel, sliding over to her with the divider on his lap. And that was at the beginning of the date.

Wow does that bring back old memories, two Studes one in driveway. X1 learning how to drive. Okay hon slow down turn into driveway and park it. Screech, bang, scrape parked car sitting on hood. Me stunned X1 tearfully saying i thought that was the brake just before exiting car. Man could she run when she was young.
