  • Mirror Problems on My '53 Commander

My custom has a huge blind spot over my right shoulder. I have been told that adding a correct-looking passenger side exterior mirror, even if it is convex, may not help because of window/windshield trim blocking the view from the mirror. I greatly want to use correct-looking mirrors. Any suggestions besides widening the rear window which already is planned?

A cheap little web-cam with a monitor on the dash? Aren't they selling those things as options for big bucks on new vehicles?

Tim, what happened before right hand mirrors, was that you learned to constantly check your inside, center mounted mirror for vehicles in the right lane behind you. (Well, there wasn't a passing lane then, that was the lane going the other way.) We were taught that when passing a car, wait until you could see both of its headlights in your mirror. It would then be out of your blind spot.

Or just move the stock type mirror forward or back so you can see in it. I read that the dealers installed them and have seen them mounted anywhere from just behind the passengers window divider to the front of the front fenders. I prefer them on the doors myself but depending on your custom they may be easier to use on the fenders. Steve

EDIT: Just realized who you were. I see no reason you cannot make correct looking mirrors functional on your car and I think it would look great. Steve
