  • On-line chapter newsletters?

At Cedar Rapids, Larry Swanson was giving out
awards for chapter newsletters that were on-line.
Is there a link to those so that we could view them each month?
    Sounds interesting to me.

I think most that are called "on line" are just distributed via the internet...not set up as a unique web site.

Our local chapter editor (Brian Curtis) gives members the choice of getting it via email (pdf or word file) or as a hard copy. Those that get it via email get it earlier, save the club money (and the editor time), and they can always print it if they want a hard copy.

The Big 6 River Bend Chapter sends an email to members wanting the "on line" version which comes as an attachment.
We considered putting it on our web site... BUT why join a chapter if others can get the bennefits without paying the dues.

            Hi fstst56,

The awards for electronic newsletters at the International are usually for using Internet or email delivery versus paper & postage. In most cases these 'electronic' newsletters are the same as the paper version. In some cases the electronic versions have more features and details.

In almost all cases "current" Chapter newsletters are only distributed to members and "current versions" are not accessible by the general 'non member' public.

On some Chapter web sites archives of the electronic versions are available as reference for prospective members to get a flavor about a Chapter's activities. In my North Star Chapter we keep the "current version" private to members. We get people who join after they've seen a few newsletters, but they want to be current and join in the fun so they become members.

You can see the archives of the North Star Chapter's newsletters at http://www.northstarwheel.com/

Thanks for the "Top Notch" comment. As a matter of fact, our newsletter receieved first place senior monthly print newsletter at Iowa this year. As editor, I get the plaque for my wall but I couldn't pull it off without such a great club as Karel Staple. I get many member contributions and quite often see our member's tech tips reprinted in other newsletters.

Just ask Pat Dilling. His tech tip was reprinted in at least two other club newsletters. Check us out online for color pictures.

Congratulations Jon! I was wondering if we/you placed. Top award is just reward for all your hard work. As for keeping current edition for members only, I think our thoughts are to increase membership by drawing attention to Studebakers and to our chapter. No sense restricting access if that is the goal. Membership brings many more benefits than just our chapter newsletter. We are blessed with an active and friendly club and I think that is what brings and keeps members.

Our Long Island Chapter editor e-mails us our monthly newsletter and also e-mails a copy to Larry Swanson.
I'm the chapter recording secretary and I e-mail the meeting minutes to the editor. It seems to be working out well. Those who don't use a computer receive a hard copy.
