  • Oil Filter Housing Color?

I am restoring a 1954 Commander Coupe. I have tried to find the correct color for the oil filter housing and I have been unsuccesful. Does anyone know what color fram orange is?

    Thanks

I don't think Fram has changed their shade of orange since 1954. I would go and buy the cheapest Fram filter (either a common PH25, PH8A, PH3685, etc.) at you local parts store and have a paint shop match it up for you.

    Craig.

    Thanks

It was only Fram orange if it was dealer installed, black or engine color from the factory. (Not sure which)

Most of the ones I've seen were a satin or semi-gloss black.

BTW, I believe the orange Fram ones were an after-market item.

I did look in my 47-50 Chassis Parts Catalog and according to it the factory oil filter kits were made by Fram.

The factory installed filters were semi-gloss black and the dealer, or later, installed filters were Fram orange.

Perhaps what I did will work for you...
I didn't want to take the time or money to get a paint match so I just used Chevy engine paint. That orange was a pretty good match for the dealer option Fram oil filter - if you're looking for quick and dirty.
