  • Broken bench seat hinge

I am restoring a 1951 Starlight Coupe and I would like to keep the original front bench seat. The problem is that the main hinge that the seat-back pivots on is broken. I have been told that this problem is almost impossible to fix due to the weak structure of the tubular steel frame construction. Any suggestions for fixing? Alternatively, any source for replacement frames?

Are you good with metal work? You should be able to reinforce it with some angle iron and nobody would ever know unless they tear it apart. If you cannot fix it yourself a good machine or welding shop should be able to fix it right up.

I agree. I can't imagine a knowledgeable metal worker not being able to repair the seat. If it truly is beyond repair, there should be a usable frame available from some SDC member.
