We attended the 37th Annual Lake Afton All Wheels Car Show as a club yesterday.
It's a June tradition for many Wichita area clubs to gather at what is billed as "The World's Largest FREE Outdoor Car Show" with nearly 4000 cars attending.
We had 12 club Studebakers on display, and many more members keeping cool under 2 tents in the sunny afternoon.
We also made connections with 2 possible new members - one fellow had a very nice '39 Champion sedan with the Horseless Carriage Club.
Then a younger fellow who is new to Studebakers arrived, and is building an R-series truck into a daily driver, to be powered by a 5 cylinder Mercedes-Benz diesel engine.
We received him openly, and he was impressed enough to join the local & National clubs on the spot!
I personally talked to many young people, who were asking about Studebakers & bankruptcy - so they must be reading the news of late.
Many were surprised to hear that Studebaker simply got out of the car making business, and was still in operation as Studebaker-Worthington.
All in all, it was a sweet day at the lake for the Midway bunch - and I'm sorry no one brought their camera!
