Kind of ironic that Dennis is also having to close up his doors as well.

Sad story. History repeats itself as far as automotive jobs going away.

I like the part where it took 3.5 minutes to install a headliner. If that was the case I would have changed mine years ago.

It's interesting that all the things we know about Studebaker's demise are happening all over again with Chrysler & GM. Hopefully, the outcome for those two companies will be a lot better. Too many jobs are dependant on them, even though the companies will be much smaller after they emerge from bankrupcy.

A former Studebaker assembly line worker told me once that a week after he started working the line, a union rep jumped on his case because he was finishing his job (what ever it was) too fast and he needed to slow it down.

I guess he did not install headliners...

I have the feeling that if Chrysler finally goes under, we won't be pulling Hemi crate engines out of a SASCO-like place in the future.

I've told this tale here before, but it's a fun one. I met a guy who used to work for Stude in the early 50s. He said at one point he was assigned to a new department to fix flawed fender cores. These guys had established a unit-per-manhour rate early on that wasn't too speedy. Of course, in the interest of job preservation and overtime, these guys didn't try to exceed their established production goal. That was, until some squirt came along that didn't want to play their game.
Whatever their daily output per man was, it was significantly less than the 66 pieces this jerk turned out on his FIRST DAY!
Of course, after that, all the others would be looked upon as foot-draggers.[B)] So at the end of the newbies first shift, he returned to his locker to find the number "66" written all over everything he owned - lunch box, tool box, locker, personal items, etc.. It didn't pay to rock the union boat![}]

Anyone wanna volunteer to install my new headliner? I'll even allot you a full ten minutes![:0]

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

Let me see if I've got this right~
                  • "Studebaker: The Legacy Lives On" is the title of the article/interview[?]
                  • No mention is made about how that "legacy" is about to turn[?]
I guess there is at least one good quote~

I really must have missed something somewhere along the line. I apologize and don't mean to change the direction of this thread, but what threat is the museum under?
