  • Drag racers stop in Mokena (photo)

Frank Van Doorn and John Caskey stopped in here in Mokena to pick up a headlight for John's '39 Coupe Express on Friday the 22nd. They were on their way to the drag races in Indiana with Franks Studebaker powered '41 Champion 2-door. A stop in South Bend for (perhaps) a last shot at SASCO was also on their itinerary. It offered the photo op as shown above.

Well, that shows what you know. Under the hood of that Coupe Express is a blown and injected Hemi!

Nice photo. He must have been sweating it with a "black + white" in his rear view all the way.

I've heard about that... The guy that designed the Jet Thrust Six engines of the '60's, previously worked on the hemispherical head for the Commander 6. That guy really believed in those inlines.

I absolutely love those '38 headlights. I talked to a guy who owned a '38 and he complained that he had a hard time keeping the gaskets in the lens so that they would stay dry. I would love to have one. I think I could put up with trying to keep the lens sealed.
