  • New Rockne Thermometer!

Received this in the mail today!
Sent from Norway by Terje Haugland.
My camera's too cheap to do this justice. It's a foot long and weighs a half pound; heavily porcelainized front and back on stout steel; very crisp production. If they made them in 1933, this is the way they would have made them.

    THANK YOU, TERJE!

Nice, Brad! When you get a better picture in focus, re-post. That has to be pretty rare. Great gesture. [^]

Terje tells me he had fifteen made. Two are now in the U.S.

In the old mercury thermometers the silver mercury appeared red in the tube. They no longer use mercury and the color in this is blue.
Anyone know what's in the tubes now?

Looks like maybe, isoamyl benzoate, Brad. Never realized how many new thermometer options are out there.

Oh, I'll bet Larry Tholen (Rockne Registry) wants one of those!

Mercury in thermometers always looks silver. Most advertising thermometers use alcohol with red dye.

I have a older thermometer the friend who did the paint and body work on my truck gave to me. He collects and resales antiques as a hobby. Said it was in a box of items he bought and new that I would like it. He's correct .It has Studebaker name and wheel across the top, has red in tube. Says made USA and has a 58 in small letters under the temp. See no other name on it.
