  • First Drive...63 Daytona (ex Biggs car)

I got this car from Biggs in January of '08. I was sidetracked for a while working on the Ute, but was back on it this spring. 305 Chevy-Powershift floor shifter hooked to a TH350. '66 dash. Abbreviated trim.

Biggs had done most of the hard stuff. Body and paint, interior, etc.

Today, I actually took a (short) spin in it. No exhaust, no license, so I only went a few blocks.

The following video is the ACTUAL first time it left my "clubhouse" under its own power. Ran good. Trany shifted good. No leaks. Good so far.

Plenty of work remaining, but this was a milestone. [8D]

Hopefully Biggs can tell us when this car last moved under its own power.

TOO COOL! Ya done good, Dick!

I can't say when that thing was last on the road. As you know, it was a somewhat beat up shell of a car when I got it. I know I paid a few hundred for it, but ALL the brightwork as well as the front and rear glass and vent wings were missing. No seats either. Just a shell of a hardtop with a cracked 289 that would run and a T-10 in the trunk.
It had taken a heck of a wallop in the right B-pillar, which crushed the door as well. It was at least 10 years ago that I found it like that. I'm SURE it was at least 5 years prior to my finding it that it was last driven.

The car looks great. After viewing the under-hood shot, I see why the stop lights aren't working.

The switch looks nice, new and shiny, though.

NO wiring is hooked up except for the ignition switch at this point.

How about those tail light lenses? They are '62 lenses with the chrome removed. I thought they fit in well with the minimalist look of this Daytona.

Looks to be a fun ride, a good set of QUIET mufflers will make it a nice road car, wish mine were quiet on my 64 and some day they will be. Mine arent teribalely loud but the constant roar of a road trip makes for a noisy ride.

The 66 wood grain dash trim really sets off the interior. Sounds like it runs real strong too! Nice work, Dick!

At the pace I work, a week just wouldn't do it ...besides, the Boulevard Park show here is the same weekend as the OD...and I had decided to do that with the Ute instead of the OD. I did help Brian get the FOM back in his '66 Friday, so hopefully there will be at least some Bellingham representation at your great tour.

I'm planning to go to the zone meet, but will take the Ute.

Will you be up for that one, Dave?
