  • Looking For a '53 Commander Dash

A shot in the dark that someone out there has one in show quality condition. My gauges work fine.

Also, if I have to have it refurbished, any suggestions who I can contact?

Shall we ASSUME it is for a C body, from your signature?
C & K are not the same as Sedans. I have been wrong before, guessing members are looking for parts for their signature car!

What do you mean by "dash"?

      Do you need...

The piece that goes completely under the windshield (window to window)?

The part that holds the gauges?

The part that covers the part that holds the gauges?

      The hoods?

The two curved pieces that go under the gauge pod?

Do you want to reuse your gauges?

BTW, I'm sure the gauge pod and related parts are common for all Commanders...C/K's and Sedans. The big part (called Instrument Board) is not.

        A rather generic answer...

I hear Just Dashes in California do good work.
They advertise in Hemmings and other places.

I need just the instrument panel and the bright work pot metal trim that runs all the way across the dash except for radio delete. I have a radio. The switches and gauges are OK. My car is a C body.

I had complete 1953 Commander and Champion C/K dash assemblies in the load of parts that I sold to Bill Cathcart years ago. Who knows, he may still have the Commander dash. It doesn't fall within the parameters of what he usually deals in. It won't take much to inquire. See any Turning Wheels for contact information for Bill.

              Tim,
I have the big metal part (Instrument Panel) and a glove box door. They are not show quality. They would have to be stripped and painted. Any body shop can do this for you.

Yours free for the cost of shipping.

I assume you also need the pot metal chrome that goes end to end on the panel as well as the piece that contains all the switches and the switches them selves? Ashtray, radio speaker grill?

Here's a relatively stock one in the Ute to give you an idea what they look like...

We may be getting out terminology screwed up. I believe what Tim is looking for is #2113-1 in this illustration...

It DOES NOT fit all '53 Commanders. The parts book says that it fits '53 and '54 C and K Commanders. There must be a subtle difference with the '53 and '54 C and K Champions, but I don't know what it is.

Its been too long ago my dash was out but maybe the difference, Dick, is the cutouts above the gauge panel where the long chrome strip with the toggles goes. The champion cluster sits up a little higher so maybe the holes are different. I don't think I have any pix of mine when it was stripped....
