  • Help I need Help Thank You

I need a new or reconditioned Stromberg Carburator for a 1957 Golden Hawk 2 Barrel. It is of the utmost importance to me to find one immediately if not sooner. Any leads or help would be greatly appreciated. The hubby wants to put a 4 barrel on the kids car so he can use his two barrel. I am really scared I know what happened last time. Please help Thanks Anne

Some Mopars used the same carb. I have one on my lark 259. It has been so long since I have run the lark, I don't remember what I did to make it work. I think I had to do a small modification to the linkage but don't remember just what it was. Some of your local west coast buddies should be able to help. Believe me, if I managed to do it once...other's have probably done it dozens of times.

I got an extra one for a silver hawk...Are they the same? Backdraft?

Did the finned hawks use the side draft carbs? I have only owned GT hawks and their carbs were straight up just like the larks. So, I could be wrong about the Mopar Anne.

Anne, when I was younger I had a pretty hot car and to keep my younger brother out of trouble I would disable the secondaries on the 4 barrel. In that case, they were vacuum actuated, but you could disconnect mechanical secondaries.

I'm pretty certain Dave Thibeault has it in stock.

IIRC, it's a ww-122, downdraft. That's what mine had on it.

The carb is a ww Stromberg but jetted richer(.057 at sea level) for the blower. A run of the mill downdraft from any 289 will run ok but a little lean. You can always re-jet.I checked the parts book to verify if they listed a brass float(collapsible under positive pressure)and the book lists the same number in blown and unblown so I guess 5 lb won't worry it.

I just want to Thank everyone who helped me with this. I finally have a solution that I got him to agree to. He is trading Carburetors with the Son's car. Just for now solves his immediate need. Then at the zone meet we look for another carburetor for the son's car at the Zone meet a week from Friday. Its a win win situation. I was just in a panic about the 4 barrel Carb. being put on Bobby's car. All I know is that I just had this sickening feeling the same one I got last time they put a 4 barrel on his Champion. My instincts were correct then I couldn't (Wouldn't) take that chance. For those of you that don't know why this would affect me so. Within days of putting a 4 barrel on Bobby's 55 Champion the throttle stuck he had 3 teenagers in the car with him went airborne mowed trash cans down in the neighborhood hit a parked car and a tree. So I had a real honest to goodness panic attack. Just thought that I would remind or share my reasons this was August 2, 2007 at 11:30 pm. Its a memory that is forever in my mind.
