m5 truck...rad. install SPRING? ???

Hello..working on a 1946 M5..the book shows a spring under the rad? Is it really needed, or can I leave it out.Does it go under the frame,between the rad and frame?

Stude trucks use this spring to allow the frame to flex without tweaking the radiator core .. Make sure to use it.
There should also be a spring under the rh cab mount (for a similar reason (iirc on an M)
