It probably meant something for late in production, or post-production, since the number is on top of the paint.

For some reason, Hamilton cars seemed to have more chalk marks on the firewall than did South Bend cars. Here is a Hamilton '57 President Classic firewall informing the assembly line it required Solex Glass.

I've come across numbers and letters in chalk and grease pencils all the time. Sometimes (not often) they make sense with some feature - most times not.
The 53 coupe of mine had numbers on the back of the instrument board. The door panels had the car's trim level (C3) chalked on their backsides.

Kind of neat how they used the blower motor for the O in Solex on that Pres. Classic.

Matt, I believe that if you look at, or order your Production Order, you will see that it matches the LINE NUMBER! [^]

The Trucks have the line number on the top of the Bell Housing and usually the firewall and frame to match the Engine, Chassis and Cab to each other to match the build order.

I guess the Canuks were early at being green, they saved the trees and rit the whole build order on the wall! [:0] Firewall that is!

Answer me this, Craig. I see that that President wears a different style body tag than SB-built cars. Does this mean that Hamilton welded up their own body tubs?

Yes, Bob, they did. The individual stampings were shipped from SB, and Hamilton had their own set of jigs to assemble them. A "Canadian Content" thing, at least in the labor.

I'm quite sure that StudeRich is correct. A Power Hawk I used to own, but now in the hands of my son has "X3535" on the firewall. When I got the build order, there was the same number on the top of the form (the car was L.A. built in March'56).
