I can't tell for sure from the picture, but it appears to be an NORS lens and not an NOS lens.

NOS = New Old Stock
NORS = New Old Replacement Stock - This is a part that is unused, but made as a replacement at a later time. For example, most of the wheel cylinders that you now buy are NORS.
This 1961 taillight lens appears to be from the run of reproduction lenses that were produced in the 1970s.

References have been made before to that run of lenses made in the '70s. One of the costs cited in reproducing items is the molds; someone has to have these molds, right? Maybe those interested in repopping this piece could acquire them from the original reproducer?

A long-time member told me today that the repros were stopped because the chrome was not durable- it started crazing in just a few months.

For reference, a vendor had a NOS one on his table for $120.

There was appeared to be a NOS '61 lens on a table in the middle of Building A- didn't see or hear a price.

I contacted the seller and he replied that the lens does have a grommet. That would make it an orignal NOS lens, which to me is much more desirable (than the more "common" NORS lenses).

I watch eBay all the time, and that's the highest one I've ever seen there, anyway.

Wish I'd bought that one at York for $120 now... I coulda been a flipper like JP, just on a smaller scale
