  • Stude Bumper interchange

Somewhere on this forum a pic was posted of a purple Lark wagon that someone had made into a Ranchero/ElCamino looking vehicle.
I have tried searching for the pic but must have not put the correct info on the search.
Anyway, it has a Champ truck grille with a front bumper that has a "notch or step-down effect". I read that the 61 Lark had this bumper. If one wanted to use a Champ truck grille on a early Lark is that bumper needed for clearance? I want to have my info correct before spending time searching for one.
    Thanks,

No, there are no clearance issues between bumper/grille. You can use the Champ Grille in a '59-'60...
    I'm not sure about a '61-'62...

The 61 "stepped" front bumper will FIT all '59-'66 Larks.. it just won't be "correct".

A 59-60 grill is narrower than a 61, and in no way would fit a 62. I think correct me if I'm wrong, but 61-63 front bumpers are the same.

        Thanks for the quick replies.
We aren't looking to keep the car "original" but are looking to make changes to change up the appearance without altering the body. That way when the time comes it can be put back to "stock"

        thanks,

            Yep!
            That's the one.
Is that a stock Stude bumper? Or has the builder modified it?
It looks as thou he changed the bumper to make clearance for the Grille.

              Front Bumpers:
              '59-60 are the same
              '61- unique to that year
              '62-'63- the same
              '64-'66 the same

None have any clearance issues with any grille when put on the car they are for.. or any other '59-66 Lark-type regardless of what grille you have mounted to them including Champ Truck..

IE: you can use a '59 bumper on a '66. It will look funny- but it FITS without issue.
You can use a Champ truck Grille in a '59 car, and a '65 Bumper. It will FIT without any clearance issue.

I have never noticed any difference between the '61 and the '62-'63 front Bumper Ray, what do you you think is different?

They both have the dip-down flat center to give more clearance for the Grille, they do use different vertical Guards when ordered, and the '62-'63 Daytona & Cruiser had corner wing guards and optional on others, those just got the same bumper with the holes in the corner.

I have no idea.. but they have a different part number. I "think" it might be an extra hole on the end for the add-on wings. In '64, they dropped the add-ons.. and just bent the bumper around the corner.

I'm sure it has something to do with the bumper ends...how they are shaped/stamped, or drilled.

I think the difference are the bumper bracket holes. Swifster has a 1961 bumper on his '64. He was looking to trade to someone earlier last month. Tom?
