  • Chrome 289 valley cover-where to buy

My son is restoring a 57 Silver Hawk. The 289 was frozen but we pulled the head and
worked it until it turned over. He wants to detail the engine but the valley cover is serious
rust and pits. My 63 Hawk has a chrome cover that a PO put on. Anyone know where I can get one , or, if not chrome, at least is in decent condition to paint ?

Only the '63-'64 Avanti Engines and Jet Thrust powered Lark/Hawks had these and only on the early ones. I don't think there ever were aftermarket ones. Any others you find, someone just had plated.

There are ribbed Aluminum cast ones, available at a Turning Wheels Studebaker vendor ad every month.

There should be lots of used painted ones around.

I "really" wouldn't go with chrome. That area is impossible to keep clean without removing the intake, and eventually, with no maintainance- the chrome is going to go bad.
I'd recommend getting the repro custom aluminum one, or an original Powder-coated in Extreme Chrome..
The powder coating can be found in this thread:

Thank you all. The cast aluminum cover Barnlark found looks like what we need. A bit pricey.
Good advice on the practical use of a chrome cover.
