Just got home from a whirlwind trip down to Lady Lake, Florida to participate in 'Studebaker Day' at 'The Villages.
Coupe Express ran great....(But not without a few glitches)..
Went to Ocala Friday night to have supper with my youngest daughter Kate (who is quite the cook!)..
Put my new (Harbor Freight) gift car cover on the truck overnight, and when I went out Saturday morning to pull the cover off...
WHEW! the smell of raw gas was STRONG....
Looked underneath and there was a steady drip, drip, drip of gas coming out of the flex fuel line from the steel line to the fuel pump inlet...
          Hmmmmm...
Rolled the truck out from the puddle and started it up.
With the truck running...it didn't leak (but probably sucked some air though).
Drove to the local FLAPS and bought a foot of new hose and two new clamps.
Went to the show motel and jacked up the truck, took off the RF tire and crawled under and R&R'd the hose.
The hose was all cracked and split on the outer cover.
          (Gates fuel line, too)
Wonder if the 'new' gas killed it?
While I was under there I noticed the LR axle seal was leaking enough to get the inside of the wheel all oogy, and there was some lube getting on the rotor.
I had bought some extra paper towels and a can of brakeclean for the fuel line fix, so I went back there and cleaned that up too.
          I'll fix that at home.
Rick came over and we went to the show form up area and started cleaning for the show.
I'd like to say I helped Rick clean his truck, but it was 80%/20%.

Rick helped me 80% clean mine up and I helped him 20% on his...and that 20% is suspect (Rick had a cooler in the back of his truck[}])
We all met up and formed up and went into the show.
Nice day, nice crowd. Lot's of fun.
Went out for supper afterwards and crashed out at the Holiday Inn Express.
Rick and I ran out and took some neat pic's in the town square and around the Villages.

(You can see above that Rick found the 'Rehydration Station' right away[])
I can't wait to see his magic touch with those pic's...
          Drove back around lunchtime.
          About a 450 mile weekend...
Ran the gas reciepts against the trip odometer...
17 mpg on one leg....16 on another...15 on one leg..
          Not too shabby.
          Fun weekend.....

I replaced all my gas line hose with the sae 9 fuelinjection hose
a few years ago.I think there was some posts on the this forum.I
think you can get this hose at napa. They say it will last longer
and hold up to all the new types of gasoline.

I will definitely consider that (and do it)..
I have three short pieces of the same hose on the truck now.
Just replaced the one piece, and now don't trust the other two.
The fuel tank sender reads funny, so that's two good reasons to drop the tank and fix them both at the same time.

I have a friend who lives in the Villages. He said the car show was terrific. (By the way, he's a DeSoto man)

I hadn't seen the car in picture DSC00281 on page 2 in years!

I wondered if it was still around. I guess the builder was a
former Studebaker employee who was inspired by the "One Piece

Hey Jeff, 'bout how long did you have those rubber hoses on there before you had that leak?

                      Just wondering.

                        A good and fair question.
Early 2002 and slightly more than 13,000 miles.
No rubs, but a 180 degree bend and whatever shaking the engine could toss at it.
I wonder if the bend and the shaking might have doomed it early.
(If you can call seven years 'early'...
                        Dunno...

FYI, good quality NAPA fuel line lasted 2 years here in Tucson (its a dry heat, ya know). I have since switched to fuel injection line and had no problems. On another topic, I see that, as usual, you have managed to talk some cute young lady into posing with that ol' yellow truck! (DSC00266)

Thanks for the update and photos from the event. Sure sorry that I missed being there. So close and yet so far.

I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this information, if not, I can start a new thread.

While viewing the photos, I noticed that some of the vehicles are sporting the Florida Antique Plates. These require an annual update for a fee of $20.60. Florida has a permanent plate "Horseless Carriage", (for vehicles manufactured in 1945 or earlier) with a one-time fee of $31.65. I had thought that there was a limitation on the mileage and use, but evidently that is no longer the case.

Hopefully this can save some of us CASO a few bucks a year. The annual savings almost pays SDC Membership.
