After about 5-10 years of searching you may find one, if not just order a new R1 Avanti Chrome Air Cleaner. It will fit correctly, and look better than any other Air Cleaner EVER made for any car.

It is not overly restrictive like the stock 259/289 unit so you get better performance and MPG. It uses a Ford 406 Police Interceptor replacement Element.

Available at most of us Studebaker Vendors at studebakervendors.com

Are you looking for one for a truck, sedan or hawk? Paper filter or oil bath? 2BBL or 4BBL AFB?
      Thanks,
      Chuck

SASCO has NOS oil bath AFB filters for Champ trucks. Lots of them.

Got one, needs to be cleaned and painted, but in good condition. Used on my GT Hawk for car shows years ago.

Did they use various air cleaners for truck vs. car, and different car models?

Yes, most if not all Trucks were the big tall ugly Oil Bath type.

              Much taller than a Car.

Well if someone buys me one of those nice repop chrome ones I'd give them my black air cleaner

Anyone know what breather/filter combo works well on a 62 Hawk 289 with a 500 cfm Edelbrock?

I've got one of those carbs on Pete and I use an old AMC air cleaner in it. Late 60s vintage I believe. Not that that makes things any easier. It just broadens the spectrum of possibilities some.

Yes, if you go back to Post #2, that Air Cleaner is available with either the 4 1/4" or the 5 1/4" base, for the original Carter WCFB/AFB or the new Edelbrock AFB clone.

Since these are available, I would never run one of those aftermarket Chinese chromed tin "lids" with the element all exposed to get full of water, dirt, oil etc. that will rust in a Month.

Rich , you could almost be sure that the repop one that SI sells is also Chinese chrome as well

Could be, but it seems to be a bit better quality than the Parts Store variety.

That must explain why a couple I in my stash have several 1 1/2-inche holes cut opposite the stock inlet. Maybe I need to test one on eBay.
