  • Bob Helm

I was talking to Bob last night on the phone about ordering his product he advertises in Turning Wheels. He seems very nice and easy to deal with . Has anyone on the forum bought his product and if so were you happy with it ?
I wish he had email so I could see what he has to offer but he doesn't and I guess that is why I'm asking .

'Have not done business personally, but I've always heard good reports about Bob Helm. Never anything negative. BP
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

I tried to buy something from him, but he didn't have it, (fuel tank for a 55 President) was really upset that he couldn't help me.

He is a great friend of the Studebaker community. He is a straight-up guy, and I would not hesitate to do business with him. He was the one who advertised new wheels in TW, and has had to get out of that business because the supplier was not shipping him wheels that were perfect. He would test every one they sent him. The last batch was .020 out of round, they would not do anything about it and that was that. He does not fudge on the condition of what he has, what more can I say?

Not sure what "product" you mean, but I've received a few things from him and he is a great guy. Nice as heck about helping find something for you. I received a NOS Stude taxi radiator from him in the original factory crate for a great price. He has so many parts that he is not even sure what he has, so he has to dig, but he always gets back to you himself like a big vendor with a staff of six would. His service will even make you smile, Bob.

I purchased a set of 8 upper and lower A-arm bushings from him after seeing his ad in TW. $88 + $10 shipping for TX to ND is very fair. These are available elsewhere but at a much higher cost. A real gentleman to talk to on the phone.

If you buy oversize pistons from him wait until you get and measure the pistons before you bore the block. The pistons he sells are made in Taiwan and run on the small size.

I installed one of his kits for a customer. "62 LRK v8. The kit was complete, fit wasn't perfect as far as the bracket to manifold, one of the mounting holes was misaligned and didn't pickup the water manifold bolt in the correct location. It was fixable not a big deal, I let Bob know about it and he was going to check the rest of his stock. Also the standoffs that space the manifold to the bracket were a bit cheesy IMHO but again not a reason not to buy the kit. All in all it's a complete kit and saves alot of time chasing individual parts. He's a standup guy to deal with as others have already shared. He also stated he'd sell the parts individually from the kit. email me if you have further questions.

I'll have the car again this next week for further work. I'll get some pictures to you then. The car it was installed in was a 62Lark V-8.

I bought new wheels from Bob when he had them. The price was fair as was the cost of shipping. I'd buy again from him.

                              Kindest regards,
