Hello,
I have what I think is a Studebaker gas cap for sale on eBay. Someone told me that the "S" was for Stant, the manufacturer. It looks like an "S" from a Studebaker logo to me. Can anyone please help with an identification.
Thanks,

Yep, Stant is the manufacturer. Not Studebaker. ;)

That's a Stant cap for sure, but Dick, the S on that cap is a dead ringer for the S on '46 hub caps and the S on many Stude horn buttons.
Of course, the cap's S also mimics the S on Simca wheelcovers too.[}:)]

That cap fits a lot of other brands of cars and trucks besides Studebaker...

Just a bit of sharing. When I first got into Studebakers and vending parts and literature, I saw one of these gas caps on someone's table. This was about 1977-78. The seller said he had no idea what vehicle/s it would fit or which manufacturer. It was NOS in an unlabled box. He wanted $10 for it and I paid happily, sure it was a Studebaker item. After carrying it around for 20 years trying to sell it as a Studebaker item and having several Studebakerites tell me it wasn't, I finally sold the darn thing for $5.

Lesson learned- know what your're buying to resell.:D[B)]
