  • Great thanksgiving day and then some

Had a great day.My bro and sis was up from florida and we planed Mom a surprise 80th birthday party. My nephew in law asked me if I was still into studes and told me a friend of his found an ole crate in warehouse he was cleaning out.It was a "new" crate motor with 246 cu.in. on the crate 1960 studebaker. Then he told me there was fellow that had some ole studebakers out in the sticks about 40 miles ftrom me. The old guy has a complete original 42 stude and a few more in the woods. The old guy wants $9000 for the 42.The 42 is covered in an out building at the guys house.
Is this a fair price for a 42? I never seen a 42 I plan on a trip up that way next week to check it out will let you know what I find.

I think that's too much for that '42 - that is unless it was SUPER-nice.[:I] But what about the fate of that 245cu.in. Six???

Say Guido.... I tried to send you this via the forum e-mail option and it bounced. E-mail me so I can send you the particulars.

"Here's the dairy that had the 55 tractor truck I was telling you about. I went there a day or so ago and owner wasn't there. His hired help couldn't speak english and so I couldn't get across the idea of a truck or a Studebaker." (Name & PH# deleted for this post)

                Bob,

I have sent you an e-mail off line. I went to DSL several months ago and shut off my old analog connection at the beginning of November. I tried to update my profile, but according to B. Shaw Verizon does not want to play with the club's software.

The 1949 and 1950 Commander car sixes are referred to as 245s, but they are 245.6 cubic inch displacement, so rounded to the nearest ci, they are 246. The 245 (246) was also used in trucks from 1949 through 1960.

Thanks Gary,I talked to the man that has the engine this morning. It has 246 on the crate n date it was packed (1968).It is a short block no heads or anything.Just a timing cover on the block. He wants around $400.00 (ballpark figure). This guy is a trader so a little dickering could be involved and maybe less than 400 bux.If anyone is interested i can give ya his phone # after i ask him about putting it on forum. He said he was thinking about putting it on the internet(ebay?) but will sell to individual and save fees.
