  • Stude engines used in boats? Need answers...

I have a friend who has a boat that was bulit in 1926, and it has a Studebaker, L-head six cylinder in it. I'm thinking "Big Six" but, could it be possible? Does anyone out there in Stude-Land have any information about Stude engines in boats?

    Really do need your help,

    Steve

I don't have any facts at hand, but we've seen Stude V8s AND 6s adapted for boat use.[^]

    1957 Transtar 1/2ton
    1963 Cruiser
    1960 Larkvertible V8
    1958 Provincial wagon
    1953 Commander coupe
    1957 President two door

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

Pics? Big and Special 6's looked the same. Displacements were 354 and 289 ci.

There is probably no automotive engine ever built which did not find its way into a boat at some point in time. Some were one-off installations done by individuals. There are a number of marine conversion specialists, Stokes Marine being one of the oldest and largest, who bought leftover engines from OEMs, did the conversions and sold them to boat builders.
