Hi all--

Betty the 62 Lark is in the shop now...no breakdown, just an end-of-year inspection/preventive maintenance. She'll be back in the barn in about three weeks. Northern environs of Toronto got snow yesterday...:(

Drove all over the place in the Lark on the Thanksgiving holiday weekend (ie. Columbus Day weekend...we frozen-northerners have to have our harvest bash a month early!). Here are two pix from my private one-Stude fall colour run. Along a rural road in the Dundas Valley...

Under a red maple at the Royal Botanical Gardens Arboretum...

Still hoping to make Reedsville...aboard the modern thingy of course!

Nice. The leaves here will not look like that for a few more weeks. Mid 70s today for a high.

That's such a good-looking style. A really sweet old car[^]

Be sure to let us know if you're definitely going to Reedsville; it'd be great to at least get to say hello!

Hi Steve, im a member of the Ontario chapter as well, and we had a Maple Leaf Tour the week end before Thanksgiving. WE met in Gravenhurst, and toured around lake Muskoka, 18 studes were in attendance, was a great time, and the leaves were nice too.

I sure hope that road picture is a high resolution photo. It would look mighty good on a TW cover!

Hi Art--

Alas it isn't especially hi-rez...my digi camera is just a little "PhD" type compact (PhD = Press here, Dummy). I've managed to get a few Stude shots that probably could be cover material but for file size! Still...I've had some 8x10s done and they're pretty clear...One of the zillion emails you'll be constantly working through came from me, actually, floating an idea for a brief TW article about my first year of Studebakering, and mentioning some of the photos as well. No harm, I suppose, in my emailing a few to your TW address; if you can use them, great; if not, no sweat. I'll draft the article up and fire that off too just in case you need to plug a gap...

Yep, saw that Muskoka run advertised somewhere...too much else going on, and I probably would be chary of taking the Lark quite that far anyway despite her late-season spate of absolute reliability! Anyone on that run get pix they could share?

Really lovely countryside, Steve. Is Betty that beautiful Cornflower blue that Studebaker used to use? She sure looks blue on my screen. Betty really reminds me of Sweetie (very faded metallic green), whom I sent to live in Michigan. Sorry I did too.

The leaves are turning here in Northern California as well. Not the spectacular colours you're enjoying though. Mostly yellows, oranges, and a few brownish reds, along with a lot of brown.

Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos.

That sure is a pretty car, Steve. I hope Barney looks that good one day!

Reedsville is looking more and more likely...despite the $C being rather in freefall at the moment.

Betty is, or at least appears to be, a faded shade of 1960 Stude Gulfstream Blue...sort of a sea-blue colour. "Cornflower" blue would have more red in it. (Course with all the compliments Betty is probably blushing; maybe she's cornflower blue now!):D The Lark was originally an apparently Canada-only shade, P6218 Metallic Blue, which is considerably lighter than Gulfstream and has a faint hint of green in it. It is visible on the car's firewall and under a few small chips in the current (old) topcoat. My camera tends to make the Lark look both shinier and bluer than she actually is...

Wet summer? You got that right. Wettest, and coolest, summer in over twenty years hereabouts. Lots of cruise nights that didn't happen!

I saw that video of Barney...I'm thinking he's already shinier than Betty is. In direct sunlight my Lark looks like a blue rat rod! She looks shinier viewed edge-on or backlit though. Next spring I'm going to polish the existing paint; though old, it was a very fine job, absolutely dead smooth. If I have the car long enough, I'll probably get her repainted as close as possible to her original P6218 Metallic Blue. She deserves it...

Thanks for the kind words all!

Honestly, I'm not sure what colour Ed was originally painted. As faded and worn as his paint is, it could have been the same. After all, Betty and Ed are the same year.;)

I really need to push to get the Gimmy going this year. I really don't want to expose Bess to another winter. They've been using salt on the roads here for the last ten years and she was exposed to it last year. I don't want any more exposure. Perhaps I'll put her in the shop and transfer the brakes from the Daytona wagon to Bess, among other needed repairs and improvements.
