Hello all,
Ive been owning and driving Studebakers since I was 16 - I still have my first car, a 1965 Studebaker Commander 4-door. I bought it at an estate sale from the original owner - so it is unique in the fact that I am the second owner. Anyhow, Im 24 and in school and have been kicking around some ideas of what my next Stude "should" be. I have always been intrigued by the 1953 models. SO, let's see 'em. Show me your 1953 photos. On a side note, Gary1953, I'd love to have your car - it is gorgeous in that winter scene.

God Bless,
Nate

Okey dokey...here come some 53s (and maybe a 54 or two)...they're my fave too (and I'll wager a good chunk of the forum membership agrees)...

Funny you mention that, Bob! In 1979/80, I got a speeding ticket in a 1959 Lark (259 auto) for doing 81 mph in a 65 zone. I had to go to court to pay it a couple of month later! I lost the ticket showing it around to everyone in college!!!:D;):D

Even funnier, I got a speeding ticket in our 61 Lark (259 automatic) while in college. We were going to the Charlotte race. There were 5 of us in the car and we were going 83 in a 65 MPH speed limit. They took us to the police station in a small town in North Carolina and the Sheriff looked at the Lark and said...

"Them cars won't do no 80 mile per hour. Let him go."

Well Bob, it would be a lot easier than you think ;) The car has a 80's V6 with EFI. Probably about the same HP as a '53 Commander but less weight :D Not a racing machine by any standards but it can get out of its own way [^]

I've not seen most of the Pix posted in thread before and there are some real beauties!

This car belongs to Stephen Cade, and I fell in love with it at the 1st GA State Meet in 2004. Haven't seen a '53 since that I like more than this one. ;)

Here's Dr. Cade and me in front of it. He caught me (14 years old at the time) droolin' over it, and came over and chatted for a little while. I've also got a picture of me and him together in the banquet room, with me holding the huge Best of Show trophy that the car won. [8D][^]

It has a Studebaker chassis with the Phantom front suspension, and a Corvette engine. Herman builds race cars and he does great work.

Since early 2007, I've been using a Nikon D200 with a Nikkor 18~35 lens, but not all of those photos were taken with it. The older ones are scans of 100ASA 35mm negatives taken with a Nikon FM/Nikon 50mm or Sigma 28mm lens run through a Nikon Super Coolscan 5000ED. Trust me, I don't work for Nikon, but am more than satisfied with their equipment![^]:)

Why didn't I just go to bed? Why did I have to look one more time?

Now how am I supposed to get to sleep?

With 2 boys the sedans aren't so bad looking. I like that they kept the body line and didn't just leave it off. But I think the no post coupe may be for me. Unless I find one with a post first... or....

I'll be looking at these again in the morning over coffee.
Thanks Steve T. for fueling my itch.

Here is a photo from Lancaster of the cheapest V8 coupe you could have purchased in 1953. Just like the one my dad bought in 1961 and still owns today - only difference is the color - dad's is midnight blue.

Great pics. I haven't decided on a color yet, but this didn't help. Is there any color they don't look good in?

Wow! Studenut65, there are some very nice 1953's out there in the world, aren't there! Thank you for starting this. The thing is... now I want a 2 door-or 4 door or a Sedan... to go with my "cheap" coupe!! (Wife nagotiations are now under-way).

I see that they have some Great ones in Australia/New Zeland (WAY TO GO!) but, are there any from: England, Spain, France, Germany, Greece, etc., etc.... Anywhere in South America? Asia? I know that they exported alot of them... They would be very "Cool" to see!!!

wmsteve--

(Lots of Steves here, no? One more cool thing about this forum...):D

There's at least one forumite here from the UK; current TW has a piece on a meet in Germany; and a couple issues back there was a neat feature on a gent with a Lark in South America (Uruguay? Escapes me at the moment)...They really are everywhere.

It's technically North America, but the Carrera Panamericana in Mexico certainly has a Hispanic flair, and was won this year (yet again) by a Studebaker...see the recent thread on that, too.

I must say, these Stude's all look great!! I am still dreaming of a 2 door - maybe even an early 1953 if I can find one. The four doors are great as well - but that is why I have my 1965 Commander 4-door...haha.

I know, it's not my place to post this picture but, these two Studes(I think)represent what Mr.Bourke really wanted the 1953 Stude to be. Just check-out the clay model pictures... I'm going the stock/produced way but, I thought that you guys would like this.

Are there any in England, Spain, Greese, France, Italy, Crete... etc.? You Austrailians are GREAT!! Save The Global Rust!!! Keep the History alive!!!!!

So we've seen coupes, sedans, and even a pic of the convertible - all great looking!!! I recall seeing a "restored" 1953 that was built to look like the prototype convertible pictured in Turning Wheels a few years back. Does anyone have pics/info on this car? I thought it looked so classy - a covertible 1953/1954 - what could be better?

Well here's a couple shots of the actual prototype, sent to me by the 2nd owner. I don't think it was ever red while owned by Studebaker. The "clone" I think you're talking about is in some respects closer to the original configuration, although the Hawk dash and relocated gas filler is a significant deviation.

Here's one that's taking up space in my carport. Any takers????? Its going up on ebay soon, but I would like to make someone a great deal. As an incentive to a forum member sale prior to ebay, I'll include an extra front fender, good windshield, a good sideglass.
The front group on this car is straight. The grill surrounds do not have cracks or dents. The bumper is true as is the hood. The hood corners are not bent, though there is some rust in the "beak" of the hood. This car does not have any significant rust in the floors or trunk. Its a good solid builder. Commnder V8, that spins free with an automatic trans. I'll even throw in a set of wide white tires already mounted on stock Stude rims. C'mon, anyone interested???
