Maybe one of thse computer things, but I will take your word for it, Michael. When I click on the link, I don't receive anything about an Avanti or any Avanti picture.
EDIT: After several tries and going between different pages on the Hot Wheels site, I was able to see the 1963 Avanti with the typical Hot Wheels giant rear wheels and tires.

All I can say is they've done it, they've finally done it . About 4 or 5 years ago Hotwheels held a contest for the kiddies to design an utterly completely new car on paper. They were to then submit at a local Walmart in a drop box at the front. Well, I had this idelological moment, so I grabbed a TW and sketched an Avanti on the piece of paper. Of course it was Hotwheels, so it got a few more additions than what Studebaker intended(nothing to disrupt the lines, but appeal to the Hotwheels crowd). I put a little note on my actual age with this idea that "if possible to circulate the drawing to the uppers in management, that this would be a great addition" and so on and so forth. I knew from a realistical standpoint that this was gonna be a "fart in a whirlwind" and the drawing would probably find its way to a wastebasket, but I put it in anyway. I don't know if that wee drawing ever got circulated, or if the Avanti idea came from other sources, but I know I have a downhill track waiting for it if it makes it to our Walmart here . Either that or a shelf next to its Att-a-tude(spelling) brethren here.....

Hey PBR2...
I also sketched an Avanti.
I won the little contest too. My prize was a huge box of all 100 or so cars that Hot Wheels made that year. (year 2000?) Still got 'em all, sitting in the back of closet.

I didn't win the contest though, I did it to see if they would really produce soon after the contest was over(think Butterfly effect). My age of 18 at the time excluded my personal self from the contest, but it didn't slow me down from giving it a shot [)]
Funny enough I thought I was the lone wolf on this endeavour, what were the odds of two sketches showing up in their slot? [)]1964 Studebaker Commander R2 clone

The new Hot Wheel Avanti is great news. It will be released in several different colors through out the next few years. Any new Studebaker toy is good news.

I bid on a few on ebay, won 3 of them for 99 cents each but the shipping is 8 bucks, still not too bad, cheaper than what the store will be if they ever show up, classics 4 has barely showed up around here!
There is supposed to be chase versions with rubber tires. Somebody from Bangkok, Thailand was selling them on ebay a while back with both style wheels, probably stealing them from the factory or they were rejects.
Can't wait to get them!
