The book says 9&1/2 qrts, or 11&1/2 qrts, depending on which year and which model. These fluid levels are with torque convertor drained, which is advised. For safety, set the parking brake and chock at least one wheel, on both sides of the tire. Begin by adding 6 qrts., start engine, run for aprox. 1 minute with gear selector in Low. With engine still idling, and selector still in Low, add 3 more qrts. Shift the selector through all ranges, let it warm up, make final check, with selector in Low, add as nessessary. Do not over-fill. This info. is directly from the Studebaker Automatic Drive Shop Manusl.
Hope this helps.
