Too bad. I feel for Mike and hope no one was injured. Had a carb fire once with the 55 Commander in my garage and grabbed the fire extinguisher off the wall. Had it out in a second.

Heartily sorry for Mike...

Mike's not in the '07 roster. Not that that means anything.

I've never had a Stude catch fire on me. (fingers crossed)[}:)]

Had an Edelbrock carb that tried repeatedly to set my Studebaker on fire! Amazing how a Holley cured that.

Gosh- I hate to hear of stuff like this!!! Does anyone in the area know if it was a Hawk, a truck, or (heaven forbid [:o)]) a sedan or wagon... [?] [?] [?]

Sorry to hear of the loss either way. :( [V] [B)] [xx(]

No Wileys in MO and no Mike Wiley anywhere in the 2008-2009 SDC Roster.

I also had a carburator fire on my '55 Commander several years ago in my first attempt at starting it after PO had it stored for many years. I really dislike that back-draft carburator. I was priming it for first start when it back fired but I had a fire extinguisher handy just in case and only got the white stuff all over the engine compartment. That clean up was better than loosing the whole car.

I've had dash fires in two '64 wagons. Both had the same problem. A worn wire rubbing on the heater valve cable sleeve. I replaced the front wiring harness both times and it cured the problem.
