  • 2 x 2 intake

I bought a new repo 2 x 2 intake for the Ute sometime ago and a few WW backdraft carbs. I figured I was pretty happy with that set up until I saw this original STU-V at the Hovander Stude Show today...

Too cool to pass up [8D]

It's for an early V8 (no end hold down bolts), but I can live with that. In fact, it's even cooler with the early long manifold clamps (IMHO).

Soooo....does anybody need a new Stone aluminum 2x2 intake with a couple of backdraft WWs? $350 plus shipping.

Hey, that looks like the one I have except mine didn't come with the linkage.

That's pretty cool, Dick; I've never seen one of those! I'm now trying to figure out how you get a hot-air choke tube to that right-side carb without having it run into the linkage for the left-side carb![:0] BP

Wouldn't only one of those carbs have the ckock hooked up ?

Looks tight [^]. I doubt if I'll run chokes. I didn't on S2D for 10 years and 35,000 miles. No problem. Not as if I live in Indiana or someplace like that where it gets cold .

With the carb air horns facing the sides, you have a fighting chance of running air cleaners at least. It's impossible with the backdraft WW's in line.

A guy at the meet yesterday had the same setup WITH the STU-V finned aluminum air cleaner adapter to a stock air cleaner...

That [u]is</u> cute, Dick. I see he isn't running chokes of any kind, unless he has a manual choke hidden somewhere. Ditto a Battery Hold-Down![:0] BP

Gosh Dick, You find the neatest stuff. I'll bet with the rarity of that intake and carbs, the air box is like finding hen's teeth. Bet your contacts could make one similiar out of Stainless steel and adapt a neat stainless or aluminum custom air cleaner. I think I'm jealous. That'll look great on the ute. Bob

...or maybe just 2 small air cleaners.

I'm tempted to take you up on it, Dick, just for the carbs! What condition are yours in?

Yeah but...they would not look nearly as cool sitting sideways, as a flat mounted air cleaner! [^]

One problem with the LS dual deuce intake (when used with side inlet carbs) is the air cleaner issue.
There just isn't enough room between the air horn and the other carb to put an air cleaner of any sort on there...
                              A screen maybe...

Nuthin' is impossible, but it would take some work to get it right..

(and this concept would never work on a '53-'55 hood setup.
I love that air inlet setup in that pic...
