For anyone with a Studebaker within driving distance of Barberton, Ohio near Akron, today is the day to bring them out. It's a beautiful day with a zero chance of rain all weekend, so let's see them folks! It's supposed to start around 2 or 3pm, but it starts to fill up by noon. Canada, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, Kentucky...yes, and even the great parent state of most of our beloved, Indiana, are common license plates seen at Wink's Drive In each year, so please represent your club and try to make Ohio Region president Don Morgan a happy man. This is almost Christmas for him!! Pictures to be seen here by members attending soon. [8D][8D]

It was a great show. There I am right in the center of the pic titled full house with my Avanti. I must have been talking to the gent with me for at least 15 min when he asked me about the 224 in a 55 Commander that was parked an the row across from me. After I answered that question he kept comming up with more. Winks has a cruse every Sat so there were a lot of Stude wannabes there. I got lots of questions about the Avanti. Was great to see the interest in our cars. My wife enjoyed the live music as she just goes along to the crueses rather reluctantly. The pickup behind my Avanti took best of show.

I met that guy at a generic car show in April and he knew nothing of the SDC or Wink's and I invited him then. I told him folks would love that truck. He found it in an Amish area barn near Middlefield. Glad you made it, is your car gold? If so, the closest I got to a shot was your neighbor pulling out.

Yes mine is the Gold one. The wife and I had a nice chat with the owner and his wife. We even traded e-mail addresses. His first love is street rods. There are several Avantis close to me. Last summer we had three all parked together at one of the local generic shows. The really blew peoples minds as most of the spectators had never seen one, let alone three.

I spoke at length with one old gentleman who wandered in, not realizing it was Studebaker night. He had started driving in a 53 coupe 'exactly' like mine (he didn't remember the dash, or the spare tire].He said he'd driven it for 10 years, put over 200,000 miles on it. I think he was near tears just from remembering. He stood an looked at it for almost 15 minutes before saying anything.

Love the pictures. It's awesome to see that many Studes in one location- and to think about how many are saved and loved instead of the neglected and lost ones for a change[^]

TomB, it was great to put a face to a forum scribe. Beautiful car. If you email and give me your personal email I will send you all the pics I have of you and your car. Isn't it great, the stories that come out of people when they see all of our cars. Glad you met that guy and brought back good memories for him. I met a minister while working the other day and he had classic model cars lined up behind his desk, I told him I owned a Lark. His eyes lit up, but said his dad had one for a long time but eventually gave him so much trouble that he never bought a car with an R in the name again..Pontiacs or Buicks from then on. Oh well.

Bams50, from what I've read of your passion for "little Larks" and all things Studebaker, you would have really enjoyed this immensely as a smaller venue, but still with many cars to drool over and maybe make an offer on the ones with a sign. There was a guy sitting by his car trailer with a hopeless (even for you) hulk of either a cruiser or late Lark (didn't look at the tailights; see background of Carribean convertible in Packards at Winks on Stove Huggers) and without a front clip, or even all of the doors, hoping someone would save it from the crusher. He had the trailer surrounded with dirty parts. As a true scrounger, I asked him to test the four horns he had on the deck..I bought the one that worked for $5. That's one part that I saved, at least.

Wow, that event clearly ROCKS! Must needs take Betty there sometime. Thanks much for posting these pix.

Did go to a cruise tonight, on a whim; the Peggy Sue's event up the escarpment in southeast Hamilton. About 90 cars including three Studes. Peggy Sue's was a 50s-themed diner that sponsored this, which was the original cruise night around here; the diner is long gone but the name lives on through the cruise which is now hosted by a Rona home-improvement store.

One of the Studes arrived just as my camera battery flatlined on me. As fate would have it, it was the camera-shy 56 President which I have now seen thrice without succeeding in getting a pic! At least now I have a standing invite from the owner (chatted at length with him) to drop by and get pix of the Prez. Neat car.

Thanks again for posting the Wink's pix. That event I now realize is an eventual "must"...

Cheers

Me again...noticed something in the shot of that pretty 61 Lark droptop. Is there perchance a shot of the green Lark directly behind the 61? That's a 62 2dr sedan, a twin (except the colour) to my car, and about the only other one I've seen since I acquired mine...

Andy, you're right. Some of the usual Saturday night crowd was not happy to park in the cheap seats and later, one guy in a 64 Olds with open headers drove right in the lot and parked his car right in the middle of the main row behind George Lang's '56. Don Morgan was calling out raffle ticket numbers and we couldn't hear a thing. He never moved, either. Try doing that to an all Olds meet. That was the only minor problem all day. The final satisfaction was driving home on a warm night with three Studes in tandem for an hour. That was pretty cool. Here's that car about which you asked:

Update: I talked to Don. He said it MAY be HIS last Wink's organizing it, but certainly not the last Wink's. That show is way too big and the money rolls in there and bleeds off to the big grocery store next door, too, so everyone does well..including us. Not to worry, folks.

Bill, you are very welcome and I also sent my entire group of your '63 pics to your favorite registry. He was very thankful, too.

Btw, I did the same thing for my seats during the day, except I just wanted to show what they might do while driving if you don't have new parts in the recliner drum! The super-sharp yellow '52 convertible is owned by the Ohio Region SDC's own "Mr. Studebaker", Ed Davies. He is a 40-year member of the Ohio Region and worked for Mack's Auto Sales ("Akron's Oldest Studebaker Dealer") in his youth. It's a beauty...Ed's owned it for many years and had it painted last year.

The red '80's Avanti convertible with white top and interior, and the raspberry-colored 'current' Avanti, are both owned by Richard James of our Ohio Region SDC (who incidentally, owned my Skytop two owners before me). The raspberry car is a six-cylinder (!), and the red one was originally owned by actor Michael Landon.

The red '60 convertible is owned by none other than our own "Barnlark", and truly must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!

Paul, I went to look for the calendar today, and cannot find it anywhere! And "Madd Doodler" (Steve) was kind enough to give me one when I first saw the calendar at the 2007 International Meet in South Bend! Sorry!

I have to admit, I can't remember when I last took a photo of my car. I've owned it twenty years this year. My favorite angle of the '63's is a rear two-thirds (or is it 'three quarters') shot, highlighting the rear end and rear quarter panel/rear and side roofline styling of the car. I'll have to try and get one like that taken some time.

Bill, thanks for the help connecting some of the cars to their owners. Some had multiples there and I am never sure who owns which one after I get home. I shot the registration pages on each windshield, but when I get back the wipers usually cover an important part, or the handwriting is like mine. Please help on some of the years and models, too, if I misidentify them. I can never keep up with Ed Davies' cars. He shows up with a different one every time and leaks a story about a rare part he has stashed away each time too! :D
Thanks for the compliments, guys. I had such a great time driving my car this sunny summer.. but even though I have both horns working I rather shy away from tooting them. There were many beautiful cars there, representing many hours of love and sweat and I'm just one of those with bloody knuckles who joined in.
