Well I am excited Mabel's engine has had low low Oil pressure for quite some time now I have been driving her but not as much as I would like. Mabel is my 49 Champion. Well Kent rebuilt a 185 engine while he was staying with us earlier this year. He put it in his 62 Daytona and drove home to Michigan. Well he decided to send me the 185 for Mabel as a Thank you for staying with us over the winter. The problem was shipping costs the price of gas went sky high. Well Kent is one very resourceful guy. His creativeness constantly amazes me. He posted on the H.A.M.B. needing someone to transport the engine. He found John who lives by Santa Maria he was going to Holland Michigan towards the middle of July for his Mothers Birthday. So Kent wrapped the engine up and took it 100 miles to Holland Michigan in the Trunk of a car. This is them unloading it.
Now the engine gets loaded into the trunk of a 1965 Mustang thats on a trailer. Kent gave me John's cell phone number so I called him an arranged for us to meet on his way home. Just south of Bakersfield on 99. David and I drove Gus(1958 Transtar) down there to pickup the engine we took a cherry picker with us. We met John and Janice there at 6:30 pm only took about twenty minutes for the exchange most of that time we were talking sharing pictures. Loading the engine.
Gus and the Mustang oh by the way not really much left of the Mustang been sitting in Michigan in afield for the past 25 years no trunk or undercarriage.
54-61-62 Aka Kent is the kind of Studebaker Guy that everyone wishes they knew. He will always have a special place in my heart, he became another Son to me while he was here.
