  • 63 automatic trans question

I am having an issue with getting the proper shift points on a new rebuilt BW trans in a 63 Lark V8. If I adjust the shift lever rod that goes from the shift arm coming out of the column, to the shift lever on the side of the transmission, to get Park position - I can't fully engage Reverse. If I adjust the other way to get reverse, I then can't engage park. It's as if the shift lever throw is not long enough, but I have all stock stuff back in the column.
    Anyone ??

Is there ANY play in the GROMMETS at the under hood lever and at the Trans. shift arm?

It could also be wear on the shift housing (bell) under the steering wheel, the column shift lever or the shift tube in the column. [:0]

A good test for that is: put it in Drive and wiggle the shift lever to see how much slop you have.

Exactly Biggs! also since this Trans. has been out of the car, did a qualified Studebaker knowledgeable person install new rear engine mounts correctly in the proper frame holes with the 1/2 inch thick spacer under only the Drivers side mount? [?]

all mounts are new and the rear mount has the correct 1/2 spacer that was there when the trans was pulled for rebuild.
All the shift Grommets are new.
I suspect, Studerich is on the right track with the colum wear issues. I'll look at those today.
          Thanks guys!!!
