Why is EVERYTHING on the wrong side of the world? Someone bring this one to Lancaster and I guarantee it will get an offer that would cover your added fuel costs and a bit more anyway.Steve

Not the wrong side for me! George and I could really use one of these. Problem is coming up with the money... Oh well, where there's a will, there's a way.

Certainly not a '39 and if it is the original front bumper, then it is a mid '47 or earlier. If the body is solid it is worth the money. I had one in 1976-77 with only 52K, it had been parked in 1958 after the owner was killed by a passing motorist helping someone change a tire. I got $175 for it it I recall.

Spoke to Fred, the current owner of the truck. Seems this truck runs well enough to move easily around a mile or so. The dump works well as does the PTO. It's located outside of Chico Ca. Considering the condition this truck is a STEAL. If it wasn't for the cost of registering and insurance, I'd borrow, beg, and/or steal to get it. However, they'd kill me here in CA.

I think this may be a late Forties truck. Look at these comparison pictures (the one with the nice paint is a '47):

If the front bumper is original, it is a mid '47 or earlier. In mid '47 (after serial number M-16-35615) they switched over to the heavy front bumper.

I could use that truck, but to do so I'd have to pay the commercial tags rate for it and have it adequately insured as well. I'll just use Pete and a wheelbarrow.

Bob - Doesn't Cal. allow you to get a "Collector" or similar plate for a commercial vehicle?

Bob; throw a Tarp. over the bed, toss in a Ice chest, Hibachi, suitcase, cot, sleeping bag and register it with a Auto Type Plate with no weight fee as an RV, (housecar actually)! [^]

Not a joke I believe it CAN be done! I don't think they physically LOOK at them in ALL cases anyway, do they? I know if the current plate is "out of the system" or it is an out of State vehicle they do, only to verify the Vin. #.

Guys, nice try. Really. Sadly, one of the dis-advantages of living in the Socialist State of California[}] is the taxes, insurance, and registration fees.[V] The truck would have to, by law, be registered as a truck and [u]insured </u> as such. Both are prohibitive. Also, if one took it on the road, the CHP is always looking for an excuse to ticket this kind of a vehicle as they bring a higher fine. It's all about money in the S.S.C. Historic plates just might work. Still, the insurance is a nightmare. Besides, one couldn't ever drive it normally, let alone with a load in it. It's really maddening, as I'd love to have it.

Ah well. Bess could really use the money spent on her. Besides, I need to send money to Kent to ship the parts I bought from him.

                          Ron,
Unless they changed the laws since I've moved from Calif. You can have a truck registered with regular plates. But, you had better not get caught with so much as a lunch box in the bed of the thing.
I know of someone that used his truck just to pull his ski boat with no hassles. Until the day he decided to put a cooler and an empty wheelbarrow in the bed.
He was cited by a CHP and required to put commercial plates on the truck.

Ron; I think you missed the point! Yes if you try to get away with no Commercial License on a Pickup and you haul a wheelbarrow, you're stuck!

However, if it is registered as a Housecar, how can they say you can't have an Icechest? -NOT! [^] Of course to be technical, if it actually were inspected like it would be on a new registration they would be looking for a Chassis mount Camper -possibly! Not sure of that!

Interesting... here in NY commercial plates aren't much different from passenger; same for insurance- unless it's a business truck.

So, it's easier to use 'em here... but you've got 'em all there[}]
