  • Automatic Transmission Fluid Type

The 1955 shop manual states for a Studebaker Automatic Drive (DG-250) to use Type A (AQ-ATF) transmission fluid.

Question: Is Type A still the same today or is there a modern replacement/equivalent.

    Thanks

    Henry

There's no Type A fluid made anymore - hasn't been for years. But you can use Dexron III just fine. Be sure you drain the torque convertor as well as the tranny. The instructions are in the shop manual.

Miscreant Studebaker nut in California's central valley.

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.
