  • Front Fender Seam

I just purchased a 52 Stude commander and would like to know from the experts how to rework or cosmetically better the seam that is between the cowel and front fenders.

Does your car still have the gasket that goes between the fender and cowl? If it is missing that would leave an abnormal space. You will want to get the parts books for your car to help you see what you need and get the proper parts.

Fender and cowl edges are both pretty straight shots. The seal that goes between is available either in 1/4" or 1/8" thickness for $12.00. The seal would sit flush to both surfaces and should not be painted.

I think you missed something on the last post. Hit the little image with the pencil to edit your reply.

Thanks. The space has some sort of material in the seam but looks very old hard and is painted over.

Anthony, I would guess that you are not a member of a local chapter of the SDC. You would be way ahead to join and take advantage of the resources and encouragement available from local members. Most of us are just average folks who like old cars. Of course, there is a lot of help at this site. It is energizing to us long time members to help a person who has just discovered Studebakers.
Good luck with your 52 Commander. I kinda like them myself!

That's the fender to body seal, available from many Stude vendors. To replace it you will need to unbolt the fenders.
              1/8" part number 284937
              1/4" part number 291624

That will give you the clean finished look you seek.
