  • radio doesn't work

all I get is a smattering of static in a couple of spots. I have spares (I think) How do you bench test a radio?

What year is the radio ? Tube or transistor? I have restored a half
dozen 1947 to 1953 Studebaker radios but not any newer ones. If you
have static, likely the vibrator is working, assuming it is tube type.
I would check first the antenna connection. Checking on the bench
requires a voltage source (battery or power supply) for 6 or12 volts
depending ont he cars setup. You need also an antenna plugged into
the jack. A minimum test equipment is a multimeter (voltage, current, resistance).
The static is a sign that at least some voltage is present.

Thx. It's a tube radio for my 60 hawk. At least there is marginally more room under this dash than there is in husband's champ p/up. I'll rummage in the spare parts and see if I have a working one, before I pull the other. It may be a long silent ride to the CanAm.
