OK, I bought this pair of 54 C-K Taillight bodies at South Bend last year. They're made of some very hard and heavy metal and weigh at least twice what the standard TL bodies would. If someone backed into these babies, they'd be sorry! They may be prototypes or repops or something different altogether. They're nicely finished with properly done sockets installed and even the right color wires in great shape.
Thing is, both of them have had a rectangular piece cut out of them on one lower corner. Why? Who knows. You can still see what appear to be band saw blade marks.
I sort of assumed they're made of bronze, but on closer inspection, I ain't so sure. I scratched one of the sawed edges and it shines a silvery color. And a magnet don't cling to it at all.
They've been chrome-plated for sure. You can even see some of the copper strike showing thru on the inside. Anyone got any easy ideas to figure out what these are made of? Repair suggestions? I'd LOVE to patch in new corners and be able to work them back to presentable again.
