  • Speedster trunk mat

My newly acquired '55 Speedster has only the insulating pads in the trunk. Phantom says they ran out of the original type material for the Speedster trunk lining about three years ago. Actually, I don't recall what the original material looked like!

Any guidance on this? As a last resort, I believe there are some later style Hawk mats available. I really hate to see a cheap piece of carpet (or any carpet) in the trunk!

Some friends of mine bought the VERY last Speedster mat from Phantom a while back. All I can tell you is good luck finding another. [V]

Phantom stopped making the $375 mat I think. If they have them again, don't keep it in the trunk except for show. If it gets wet, the dye runs.

I have a fairly decent original I should put on ebay. Phantom is also out of the correct material for K9 trunk mats and has a long waiting list for them. They also have had problems obtaining the correct vinyl for the interior. Color is good, but the smooth material they use
is not a good replacement for the original grained vinyl.

Guess I should show the immaculate trunk in my K9 more respect.

Actually the whole car is still great and mostly original, less than 30,000 miles. (That's the Packard Hawk, the Speedster is nice but not as pristine).

                Thanks for the feedback.

For now, will go with generic Studebaker International kit. SASCO was out of stock of everything for the C/K trunk mat kits.
