View Full Version : "artistic angle" photos at Hill Country SDC site

Update (10/7/2007): A while back I asked for artistic angled photos that we could use on the Texas Hill Country Chapter website. Thanks, and finally they are up there to see.

Paul

-----------------------------------------------------------
So, Dick, and everyone else who has some interesting photos that you took, and can thus give us permission to use on the chapter website, please reply, and provide a link to the photos or photo albums. They don't have to be photos of your own cars, just photos that you took of Studebakers.

I will save the photos in marked directories, and plan to provide some way to note the proper photo credit to acknowledge the photographer.

Thanks in advance, and keep them coming!

I have posted quite a few photos, any of those along the lines you are
looking for? None are closeup ones like your example. I prefer to
get the whole car in, use lighting, reflections and backgrounds. Then
again my Avanti isnt stock, so maybe its not what you are looking for.

This will be fun :D. I'll send you a few, Dillo. Hopefully you can post a link to all of them when the project is completed.

I listed that '63 Cruiser for a friend. It's the inexpensive version of that beautiful R2 4 speed one we admired while it was on eBay [:p]. This one will go for a fraction of what that one bid to. It is no R2, but has a plenty strong 289/4bbl.

Here's a few. Let me know if I'm on the right track and I can dig out more.

I've got tons of "whole" Studebakers, but I kind of thought that you were looking for pictures of an interesting "piece" of a Studebaker.

"Three Fins"...this is of Mr. Biggs wagon when I owned it.

I love the way the hood and front fender come together on the early C/K's. Porsche used these same lines on their 911's.

http://static.flickr.com/114/274700333_2649d5a016.jpg

The "signiture" door crease on a C/K is beautiful. IMHO, Studebaker should have continued it into the later Hawks.

This sucks, they have blocked most embedded pictures here at my work.
I can see mine, and that "ant view" shot of the yellow Avanti. That is
a little too low I think, its 'missing' the roof. The front wheel is
also turned the wrong way. There has been articles to help out people
taking pictures of their cars in Car Craft & Popular Hot Rodding in
recent months. They explain rim position and lighting tricks. I am
not a master photographer by any means, but I have received positive
feedback on my pictures. There is always more to learn.

Well, I just couldn't restrain myself. :D I managed to sneak away to the shop and took these. Most of the cars are not that pretty, but I think the 'rustic' look adds to the picture, IMO.

Hey Daan, what's the deal on this car?

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i44/DansStudes/82afaa7c.jpg

It seems to be a '57 Golden Hawk (can see the blower and front side grille) but has Silver Hawk fins and '56 Golden hawk trim on the bottom of the door. Personally, I like the combo!!!

Edit: Just for the heck of it, here's all those pics I have scattered everywhere!

OK .. so you are after design elements really, features of a car, that
are design cues. Like an Avanti door handle or hood bulge, the bullet
nose on 1950, a door scallop on a 53 Starliner, or a 60 Hawk fin.

Thanks, guys. Keep them coming, especially links to your web albums that are loaded with pictures.

I think our chapters goal with these "angle" shots is to capture some of the intriguing beauty of Studebaker designs, while giving mostly a "50's cool" kind of feel to it. That doesn't mean we can't use an Avanti shot here and there, but we are after elements rather than whole cars.

And when it's all done, you'll be able to go to the chapter's home page, and keep refreshing your browser to see all of them. Maybe I can also organize them into a giant album as well, for the curious.

As far as Jeff's Coupe Express goes, I didn't think salt had any effect on bondo. [:o)]

Here's the truck before it was redone. (Up in Maine, I think)
Proof that any vehicle CAN be saved! :D

message in reply to SBCA96 : comments regarding yellow Avanti picture. recently I was forwarded this forum from a friend knowing that this is my car. In regards to your comments, I didn't post this picture. But in looking at this picture I can tell you it was taken by someone in 1998 on the Hot Rod Power Tour. The car was built to sit low,has a big block chevy in it, and the roof is not altered, but the rear window is missing in the picture. Because of having fun with other pro-street cars on the tour, it came out on the highway at 120mph. Wheels are turned because the car was parked and someone else took and posted this picture.

That 'ant view' was taken as Ted Stack's yellow Avanti pulled into the Florida State Meet way back in 1999'ish. The pic was taken with a Sony Mavica, way back in digital camera's infancy. There was no setup, or photo prep, just blast away with the camera.
The low resolution (of the time) definitely limited what could be taken.
The story behind the pictures made it into Hot Rod Magazine,
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j54/deepnhock/Jeff%20Rice%20Studebaker%20Pictures/EdStacksAvantiinHotrodmagazine.jpg
But it was the SDC members that kept him in the running for the 'The Long Haul Gang" Award...back when it was something special.

This one is more like "Webs on the Studebaker"! Two of my favorite subjects/obsessions-Studebakers and spiders! Yeah, I love the little fuzzy eight-legged darlin's; I keep about 50 or so tarantulas as pets. Sometimes, though, these Araneus Orb Weavers can get a tad annoying with their habit of stringing a web up across doorways and pathways through the woods.

Here's a few I took of my '51 Champion today. It still needs a lot of cosmetics, so hopefully I'll get to post some "After" pics somewhere down the line1

We need your photos . . .
The Texas Hill Country Chapter is working on getting a new website up, and we want to have a number of photos of Studebakers, taken at "artistic angles" that show off the beautiful lines and simply generate interest. I think we will probably have these photos showing up in rotation at the top of the Chapter's home page, similar to the SDC home page, with its rotating photos of entire cars (and trucks). ...

Here are some "artistic angle" shots of the '64 Avanti I had until last year. The headon shot is the one used in the Madd Doodler's 2007 calendar.

Neat '58 Silver Hawk Leonard! That must have been your Dad's pride and joy! It looks like it has Dodge Lancer 4 bar 14 in. spinner wheel covers? Also maybe J.C. Whitney dual rear antennas? Dual exhausts and Twin Traction![^] Was that an Overdrive car?

Actually, that was my Mother's car that I talked her into buying. My Dad had died of cancer when I was 7 years old.

Those wheel covers were off of my friend's father's 61 Chevy. I only put them on to take the picture as they wouldn't stay on because the Chevy rims had little nubs that kept them on.

The car was 289, 4 bbl, automatic. It had power brakes, TT, but no power steering or radio. I saved my money and had Sears install the radio with the dual antennas.

I normally ran these full moon wheel covers on it.

The brick building used to have a old Stude. wheel design sign painted on it and the name of a Dealer or something over it!

It's been a while since I asked for photos (and you all responded!) but the Hill Country Chapter SDC website now has a rotating banner photo at the top of the home page, loaded with 14 photos that you guys supplied me with. Thanks!
