  • Studebakers in Italy???

I may be going to Italy Next month and I was wondering if there are any studebakers there. Where there ever any dealers there? Any info would be great.

    Thanks

Supposedly, the Frua Lark 6-cylinder Coupe is still over there undiscovered. (The two V-8 four-door Frua Larks are in California now)

Several years ago a friend of mine sold a beautiful '55 President
coupe to an Italian Air Force officer. When the guy was making arrangements to ship it back to Italy, he was told it could not be brought into the country because of lack of emission controls. If this is all true, I doubt there are many Studebakers in Italy. Maybe some of our European member could fill us in on this.

Stude Hunter. Emil me, ltcrp@netscape.com, and I'll email you a couple of photo's of the "Studebaker Italia". My travels through out Italy in the '50's was prior to my having any knowledge of the "Studebaker Italia". The photo's are accompanied by a description in Italian and English.

Andre Crosa that Art mentioned lives in Savignone, north of Genova (Genoa) in the Ligurian region. His unrestored survivor 55 Speedster was quite nice for its age. I looked Andre up in 2004 during a family trip (my wife was born in Tuscany). He and his wife own a lovely bed and breakfast if you are thinking about staying in the area.

How cool would it be to make a new friend In Italy through a love for Studebakers in common?? That would be fun- going to Italy, seeing a Stude, meeting a fellow Stude lover, and staying in a bed and breakfast- owned by said fellow Stude lover!![8D]

I exchange emails with Giovanni Marchi, who has an M5 under restoration in Italy.

                  Hi Domenic,
yep stude dealers everywhere in Europe.

Just look at your Turning Wheels roster for Italian members from 1990 onwards as many members are only current for a few years but still have cars. I have seen photos of some exceptional original Studes in one collection in Italy when I visited a Swiss guy who had his 'ears to the ground' years ago.

That little scally wag rascal Andrea and his lovely wife Claudia Crosa are always a lot of fun.

I would think to find Italian Studebakers you would be better searching through Swiss members as there are a lot of Studebakers in Switzerland and some of thos people have Italian knowledge.

Like anything you will have to work at it to find out the info you are after.

                  Regards
                  Greg
