  • Packard Hawk Project - back in the saddle

After a little break, moving forward. Sent the body off for blasting and primer so I can get on with the minor rust repair, body work, and a new Shadowtone Red paint job.

I look forward to your progress. See it in South Bend in 2022?

quite possibly. I'm going with the same color scheme as JD's car - we'll have to park them together.

I helped a friend restore his Packard Hawk. He did it in the original color, sort of a beige. It won a national first. We didn't like the way it looked in that color and redid the car in Shadowtone Red. It won a national senior first. We both liked the car much better in that darker color. AFAIK, the Hawk is still that color (same paint job, different owner).

I will plead with you before you get to paint to reconsider your two-tone decision. IMO, the Packard Hawk has way too much going on already without two colors breaking up the lines. The gold Mylar is enough of an accent. If you are thinking about temperature, I doubt that it will make much difference. You can make more of a difference with some hidden modern heat barrier.

It wouldn't be, my first choice! But, I'm not sure, exactly what, Shadowtone Red looks like? It isn't this color,

ID:	1728029 is it? I don't think, any of them would look bad? With a Jewel Beige top.

when I saw JD's PH in this color scheme at the SB 2017 meet, that was it for me.

Although, we can't see how it looks, with the fin mylar, in that shot?

This one, is very pretty, without a two tone, but would also be with a dark Blue top. Click image for larger version

ID:	1728051 As I also think yours would still look great. If it wasn't two toned, but just painted Shadowtone Red! Yours is the only preference that, should really matter! Figure out what you want, and Go For It!

here's a view of the fin and color scheme. I already bought the california-legal paint, so not much chance of going back!

I have a original Shadowtone Red car as well but she needs a bit of work !
I also make the air deflector that seals between the top panel and the hood that was introduced half way into production to help direct air through the radiator than over it .

Wow, Jeff; color aside, that sure is a solid-looking tub to start with. Congratulations. BP

Jeff, glad to see you can Findley get going on the 58, I know Tom would be very happy to know that his dream car is going forward. he owned that car since the early 60's.
Knowing you it will be a perfect 58 Packard hawk, like Brian stated original color is very nice when done right, I got to see Brian's car when I was in Australia last month.
