    Started tearing things down last night and was curious about the numbers....

    I have another block with these numbers as well....

    The number that is stated on that flat spot is the engine serial number .
    there is another number at the very back ( passenger side that will tell you the month , day and year the block was casted .

      The first one is a 259 from a 60 lark, the second is a 259 from a 55 commander

        There will be no noticeable difference between those two, other than original Paint Color and Serial Number, unless one MAY have different Casting Number Heads, even that should be the same and also does not matter.

        Just pick the one with the best CONDITION!

          That's what I plan to do. Supposedly the '55 was rebuilt 35k ago according to the previous owner. It was disassembled when I got it.
